Today was the last day of work for all the wonderful and kind people at Cradles to Crayons before they get a very well deserved one week break for the holidays. Mannam-Boston was lucky enough to be able to spend the morning with everyone, helping out in the Toy Factory. We cleaned toys and assembled ToyPacks for kids in need across Massachusetts.
Giving of your time to impact and make a difference in somebody else’s life is probably the best way to spend any morning. We are all looking forward to heading back to Cradles to Crayons in 2013.

There really are no words to express our heartache and shock at this desperate tragedy. We just wanted to take a moment to remember the sweet children and brave teachers that lost their lives the morning of December 14 – a day that will never be forgotten.

In some cases, staffers both saved students and managed to escape with their own lives. In a classroom, teacher Kaitlin Roig barricaded her 15 students into a tiny bathroom, pulled a bookshelf across the door and locked it. She told the kids to be “absolutely quiet.”
“I said, `There are bad guys out there now. We need to wait for the good guys,’” she told ABC News. [Huffington Post]
Others were not so lucky.
Victoria Soto
This is Victoria Soto, she was only 27. As the shootings started she hid her 16 students in the closets and cupboards. When the shooter came to her classroom she told him that her class was in the gym. He shot and killed her and then later turned the gum on himself. Not one of Victoria’s students was harmed.
Today she is a hero, and her bravery will never be forgotten.
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster,” I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” – Mr Rogers
These are the names and ages of the 26 Sandy Hook Elementary School victims, our hearts go out to their families. May they all rest in peace.
