This is just a quick post to keep everyone up to date on our Cradles to Crayons drive being run through July 13.
As of May 29th (two weeks into the drive) we have received a total of 21 bags of clothes, shoes, books, and most importantly NEW socks and underwear (and I still need to pick up donations from 2 more drop-off sites!).
We have experienced an amazing outpouring of generosity and kindness, and I know that these items are going to be greatly appreciated by both Cradles to Crayons and the children who are cared for through their organization.
Please read more about the C2C drive here, and for those who are interested in joining us (children 5 y/o and older are welcome too), we will be heading to Cradles to Crayons on July 20, from 1:00-3:00pm to deliver all these donated items and volunteer for 2 hours.
Thank you to everyone who has already gotten involved, and thank you to those who are still donating items, spreading the word, and shopping for socks and undies.
With much love and gratitude,
On May 3, MANNAM-Boston went to volunteer at Cradles to Crayons. We worked at the clothing station, assembling clothing packs for children in need. These packs are supposed to provide children with enough clothing for a whole week, however none of the packs we put together were able to be completed with new socks and underwear…
Why? Because there were none to pack.
Socks and underwear have to be new, they cannot be previously worn, and because of this, they are the least donated items. Hearing this, MANNAM decided to run a drive for all clothing items, with a special focus on NEW socks and underwear.
Of course, not everyone has to give socks or underwear, anything you have to donate is perfect, but if you can, next time you are out shopping, grab a few pairs of socks and undies for these children being cared for and supported by Cradles to Crayons!
Donation drop-off locations are at the bottom of the attached list. All information can also be found on our events page. If you have items to donate but cannot make it to these drop-off locations, please contact us and we will arrange a pick up. Please keep checking back as we try to add a few more convenient drop-off locations.
Thank you in advance for helping to make this drive a success, and for getting involved and giving of your time to make a difference in the lives of these children.
On July 20 we will be taking all these donated items to Cradles to Crayons and spending 2 hours volunteering to help sort and assemble kids clothing packs.

Earlier this month MANNAM-Boston went to volunteer at Cradles to Crayons (C2C). It was amazing to learn about what this organization does and how they serve children in need throughout Massachusetts.
Dave Cotugno, Volunteer Coordinator for C2C, very graciously gave us a full tour of the facilities after our volunteer shift, and we got to see and hear how everything is run and organized.
What Cradles to Crayons does: “We help kids in poverty: kids who don’t have shoes that fit, or a coat warm enough to fend off winter winds, or a backpack to take their books and supplies to and from school. When kids don’t have these basics, they suffer. They have a hard time learning in school. They don’t feel valued. Cradles to Crayons provides homeless and low-income children with the essentials they require to thrive – to feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued.”
You can read more about this organization here.
MANNAM-Boston will be establishing a continued relationship of support and volunteerism with Cradles to Crayons.
Check our events page for information on the C2C clothing drive running through July 13. We will be delivering all items collected on July 20, at which time we will also be volunteering from 1:00-3:00pm. Come join us! The more volunteers = the more clothing packs we can put together, and ultimately the more children we can reach …and it is a blast being there and helping out! (children 5 years and older are welcome to come and help out too, so bring your kids, friends, neighbors, nieces, and nephews too!)
