Hi everyone, we have been contacted by some friends and family affected by Hurricane Sandy who are looking for some very basic essentials. I am sure you have seen the photos and news reports on the complete devastation that has taken place along the Jersey shore and NY area (as well as many other places). Please read below and contact me if you are able to help out in any way.
Here is the message we received from people in NYC/NJ area:
“I know money is tight, but we need supplies that many of us have laying around. If you could spare the postage, I will distribute the things you send to my friends and neighbors who have literally lost everything but the clothes on their backs.
- gift cards – especially those to place where you can buy food or clothes
- non-perishable food
- new socks and underwear – all sizes, adult and children
- toiletries – all types
- cat and dog food
- diapers and baby supplies
- cleaning supplies and heavy duty trash bags
With much appreciation and thanks!”
Please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org or 857-488-2741) if you are able to help out – anything, no matter how small will make a big difference.
If you would like to put together your own package and ship it yourself you can contact me for the shipping address and I will send you a message with the information.
Let’s help bring some light and hope to those who have lost everything!
(Please share this information with anyone who could or would be interested in helping out. Thanks!)
Today, four of us went to perform for the people at Rogerson House in Boston. Two violins, a trumpet and a piano made for an interesting combination of instruments, but we managed to put together some fun fiddle tunes, ragtimes (awesomely arranged for two violins), and then some light jazz and Pop tunes – the Beatles and the likes.
For all four of us, music is our way of making a living, however, today we all came together with another purpose…to spread some love and joy to these gentle, kind, and friendly people in need of some extra ‘light’ in their lives. There is no greater joy than putting oneself aside, our egos and pride, and humbling ourselves in order to touch the lives of others. It makes me think of this great quote by John Wooden:
“You haven’t lived a perfect day until you have done something for someone who can’t repay you. That’s real generosity.”
We have many more events, concerts, and volunteer opportunities planned for during the Summer. Come join us! You will find that while helping to change the lives of others you yourself will be changed. (it is also a ton of fun with a great group of people!)
Looking forward to seeing you all soon
Much love ~
